Why LiFePO4 rather than lead-acid or NMC for solar

Lead-acid is cheaper on day one and more expensive by year three: shallow usable depth of discharge, poor tolerance of the partial-state-of-charge conditions a solar system lives in, and replacement cycles that arrive far too often for a pole-mounted or rooftop installation where every swap costs labour. Solar street lighting runs a full-night discharge on top of days that may only deliver a partial charge, and the pack sits sealed on a pole through dust and monsoon humidity — a duty cycle LFP handles far better than lead-acid.

Lead-acid is cheaper on day one and more expensive by year three. It offers a shallow usable depth of discharge, tolerates the partial-state-of-charge conditions of a solar system poorly, and needs replacing often enough that the labour of each pole swap dominates the cost.
